Preface: The c omparison criteria- UV adsorbtion at 280 nm of an eluate after separation of the vaccine samples (500 ul) on TSK DEAE 7,5 x 150 mm column in gradient elution with an increasing ionic strength. The greater adsorption means the increased impurities content.

The base of widely used Virion TBE vaccine is 199 media, mice brain and chicken embryo proteins are present additionally among the target substance- TBE virus envelope glycoproteins. This vaccine is effective, however there are many complications indicated while its administration. A lot of impurities causes high and sharp elevation in unspecific immune response. Painful, many side effects observed. Strict limitation in age.

Downstream LC purification process was developed at Tomsk State University. Produced from semi-product of Virion TBE vaccine (see above). However, it has 2-3 times greater of target substance content and almost total absence of impurities. Purification degree more than 95 per cents. Its high efficiency was proved clinically. Painless, well tolerated, has broad age applicability, no side effects. Protectivity- about 95 per cent. Just slightly more expensive than beforenamed vaccine.

This Ausrian vaccine produced on the base of Naiddorf strain, circulating mainly in West Europe and Western part of Russia. Due to high content of target substance (1 ug of virus protein per dose) it has satisfactory protectivity against siberian encephalite virus strain 205 (crossreactivity about 10 per cent). Very expensive being administered in Russia (30 times much more expensive compared to domestic vaccines). Grade of purification- see figure.
